Utilities Manager Richard Archer gets promoted to Associate Director

What better way to start the new year than with some good news. We’re thrilled to announce that our Utilities Manager, Richard Archer, who has worked at Deltra for the past 8 years, has been promoted to Associate Director.

This is not only an exciting step for Richard but for the entire Deltra team and is one that will undoubtedly aid us in our ambitions for continued growth and development. We’ve no doubt that he will hit the ground running and whole-heartedly embrace his new role and responsibilities.

We thought we’d have a chat with Richard to find out how he’s feeling about this new chapter in his Deltra journey and to hear more about his ambitious plans for the next year.

Hi Richard, Congratulations on your promotion to Associate Director. Can you tell us a little bit about how you first got into recruitment?

After graduating from Brighton University and completing a year-long marketing internship in Germany, like many people, I sort of fell into recruitment. My first role was at Badenoch and Clark as an entry-level recruiter and went on to spend over 11 years with the company. During my time there I went from a consultant to managing a team of consultants, with a focus on part qualified and permanent resource.

After being made redundant from Badenoch and Clark, I joined Deltra eight years ago to build out our utilities portfolio. This involved working with water, gas and energy companies. After two years, I was promoted to manager where I was responsible for a small team and Deltra’s utilities and property & construction portfolios. I’ve worked with a range of clients such as Thames Water, SSE, EDF, Npower and CBRE and more recently been promoted to Associate Director.

What will you be doing as Associate Director?

My new role involves working across a wider range of portfolios, including utilities, property & construction, travel & transport, hospitality & leisure and retail. I’m currently managing a small team of consultants, who cover both contract and perm, whilst still retaining billing responsibilities for our utilities portfolio.

I’ll also be making sure that the team are enthused about their work helping them to create career plans, goal maps and business plans. I want to help them to be successful in their respective markets, whilst also reaching their own goals.

What goals would you like to achieve in your new role over the 12 months?

I would say that my key goals are to ensure my team is profitable and continuously meet their targets. But I also want the people in my team to feel like they’re achieving their goals, both inside and outside of work, and working towards the next step in their career.

Another key goal for me is to ensure my team enjoy the clients they work with and deliver the best possible service. This will not only help to drive repeat business and expand our client base but will also keep the team enthused about their work.

For myself, I want to continue achieving my targets and look to grow out a consulting proposition for the utilities sector. I’d also like to create more content for our podcast series and be a trusted advisor to our clients in the utilities sector.

Finally, what is your favourite thing about being a part of the Deltra Group team?

I like the work environment. We’re not a hardcore sales-type recruitment agency- we’re very down to earth and there’s a nice family feel in the office. We’ve got a good blend between being professional and output focused and also having some fun. I also like the open culture and flat structure we have. Our quarterly BIG sessions provide an open forum for ideas that can be easily implemented.

We’re just a really nice bunch of people. During this time of COVID, we’ve really worked hard together. Like everyone else, we’ve had to make various sacrifices, but this hasn’t dampened our spirits. As a consequence, we’re back on track and looking to take on new hires and grow the business. There are so many things I like about Deltra, which is why I’ve been here for nearly eight years.
