What are your main responsibilities at Deltra Group?
I am responsible for the non-fashion retail and e-commerce portfolio here at Deltra. Some of my responsibilities are to build and maintain relationships with clients and candidates, establish a presence and build my reputation within the sectors I work in, and finally, provide the best recruitment service possible to my clients and candidates within my sectors.
What drew you to recruitment?
After 4 years within retail, rising from Sales Assistant to Store Manager, I wanted a change of career where I could make a real impact on the lives of people whilst at the same time using the previous 4 years of sales and customer facing experience. Recruitment was the perfect fit for me where we are dealing with people and at the same time you get the opportunity to help and support them with the next step in their careers.
What do you like about working at Deltra Group?
Firstly, the biggest factor is the driving force behind Deltra: the relationship model. We truly believe that if you fully understand and get to know people (candidates and clients) then you will be able to deliver successfully. This is a refreshing change from other agencies where it seems hitting targets and making money is the only priority!
Secondly, the culture here at Deltra is driven around the people who work here. No matter whether you are at the bottom or top of the organisation you not only have a say but your words are acted upon.
Finally, the people I work around makes it a joy to come to work every day!
What are your three favourite things to do when you’re not at work?
I recently took up Aikido and I do this some evenings but every weekend. What I really enjoy about Aikido is that no matter what your size or shape anyone can do it! This martial art is about using the force of the attacker against themselves but there are no strikes or kicks allowed. The other benefit is that I get my exercise in! I’m a bit of a political junkie and like to consume as much about current affairs as I can! I do like reading fiction as well, particularly psychological thrillers, mysteries and even horror. I’m currently reading “The Talented Mr Ripley.” I used to play a lot of sport when I was younger but I’m now confined to just watching it. I have eclectic mix of sports that I watch including Snooker (I’m a big Ronnie O’Sullivan fan), motor sports (particularly Formula 1 and Formula E) and Baseball (I used to watch this on TV and was a fan when I was younger but became even more hooked when I went to see the Toronto Blue Jays play live in Canada).
What is your personal motto?
“It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.” – Mark Twain
